1.如何利用技术打破教室的局限性提高学生的参与度 2.关注STEMA(科学、技术、工程、数学、艺术) Hello everyone  大家好  My name is Bill Ziegler  我是 Bill Zieler  and I have the honor to be the principal in Pennsylvania at Pottsgrove high school  我是宾夕法尼亚州 Pottsgrove 高中的校长  and I’m also president of the Pennsylvania Principals Association and I am honored  我也是宾夕法尼亚州校长协会的主席  to be selected one of the digital principals of the year along with 2012 年 6 月我们举行毕业典礼的时候  As you can see, our seniors are thrilled to graduate  大家可以看到我们的毕业生都非常激动  We are located just north of James’ school, Pottsgrove high school,  我们学校在 James 学校的北部  the red dot digital history of Pottsgrove and what that look like  我们学校的数字化历程  Back in 2008, we gave all teachers MacBook  2008 年的时候 我们所有老师都得到一台 MacBook  and what did us do with these Macbooks?  我们用这些 Macbook 做什么  We trained teachers on how to use this to engage groups  我们希望老师们用它们来提高学生的参与度  We couldn’t afford it at that time  那时我们财力还不够强  and we didn’t have the set background to give students ipads single student at our high school got a MacBook Air “一对一”就是每个学生都得到一台 MacBook Air  And I’m pleased to say that we did that last school year,  我很高兴告诉大家  it’s been going exceedingly well  效果非常好  In our middle school where I was principal for 6 years,  在我们的中学部 我曾在那儿做了 6 年的校长  every single student got an ipad  每个学生都得到一台 ipad  And lately, what we got  近来  is that we really invested time, effort and get a laptop changed how he did teaching  如何改变他的教学方式  [video]  视频  This video I actually created it on my iphone to share with our community  我经常和别人分享手机上这个视频  and tell the story about digital learning  告诉他们我们学校的数字化学习情况  You know, one of the things we look to learning from each other  这周美国的校长也聚首一堂  as principals across the United States this week,  这周美国的校长也聚首一堂  starting today  从今天开始  there will be 15 ed-camps  将会有 15 个 ed-camps  just like this one here  就像这里一样  we are learning about the technology  我们也将学习技术  how we can use technology to engage the earner 学习如何使用技术提高学生的参与度  and you are joining in with thousands of principals across the United States  所以大家跟美国的校长一样  They are engaged in the same learning  美国校长们也正在参加同样的项目  it’s called edcamp Leadership  叫 edcamp 领导力  and principals in the high school are learning  高中的校长们都在学习  what they can do to engage students  如何提高学生的参与度  and this is one of our teachers working with students on technology  这是我们老师和学生在技术上合作的一张照片  and one of the things that is really important to think about  有一个问题值得我们思考  is how technology has broken down the walls and open up the boards of classrooms  那就是技术如何打破教室的局限性  because what is happening now is that students can touch the world  因为现在学生们都能触摸世界  and really change the world  改变世界  but it’s so easy for the principal to get suck into chasing the technology,  但是校长们很容易陷入追逐科技的怪圈  the latest app, the latest website, the latest electronic device out there  比如最新的应用 网站或电子设备  I encourage every single one of you principals  我希望在座的每一位校长  don’t chase the technology  不要追求科技  chase the learning  追求知识  Use the technology to engage student learners  利用科技提高学生的参与度  not to just to have them flashy, fun, exciting  而不只是为了流行 好玩或刺激  but use them to strengthen learning and student engagement  要用技术加强学生的学习力度和参与度  This will ultimately increase achievements across your schools  这将最终提高贵校的成就  and our schools in America  美国的学校也同样如此  With Technology, students become no longer consumers of knowledge  得益于技术 学生们不再是知识的消费者  like Ted said about raw memorization 就如 Ted 所说的死记硬背  Students now become producers of knowledge, creators,  学生们现在成为知识的生产者 创新者  problem solvers, innovators, designers  解决问题者和设计者  and we have students creating movies  我们有学生拍电影  they are doing blogs  做博客  they are writing books  写书  Some examples to share with you very quick  这里很快给大家展示几个例子  We have a student creating ibooks  我们有学生制作了电子书  and they went to the elementary schools  然后他们就去小学  and read those ibooks to students in elementary schools  给小学生们读他们的电子书  We have a student creating a play using her MacBook  我们也有学生用 instruction and the learning  这是一个能真正引导教学的测试  There are different levels of it, four levels  它有四个级别  The beginning one would be substitution  首先是替换  Simply put, Instead of reading a text or tell you  老实说  being a digital leader is scaring  作为一名数字时代的领导者是很可怕的  It’s not an easy thing  并非易事  But our students deserve the best  但我们学生值得最好的  And they deserve all of us, myself included as a digital leader  值得我们所有人 包括我在内  who are willing to be bold and courageous  所有人能大胆做出正确的决定 帮助学生  to make the right decisions to help students  所有人能大胆做出正确的决定 帮助学生  I think of 6 things as a digital leader  作为一名数字时代的领导者 我有谈六点  The first one is that they have be able to relate  第一是关联性  They have to use technology in the way  必须使用科技提高学生的参与度和师生关系  to increase student engagement and increase the relationship 必须使用科技提高学生的参与度和师生关系  You have to be a creator  作为校长 你必须成为一名创造者  You have to be a model as a principal  并树立起好榜样  I tried my model just like my teachers  我和各位老师一样尽最力树立起好榜样  just like the one creating his video  就像刚刚视频里的老师  I created exactly the same video on my iphone  我也在自己的 iphone 上做视频  And in this way you begin to encourage and spur thinking on the teachers  通过这种方式 你开始激励 激发老师  The last thing on this slide is innovation  这张 PPT 上的最后一个方面是创新  I need you to be willing to step into your classroom  我需要大家愿意走进教室  and say, what you are doing is helping students find success that I am not doing because challenging all studying in all levels  不同年级的学生  it′s so critical  这点很重要  Next, listen, learn, read  接下来是听 学 读  You′ll find it  你将发现  when you go into one-to-one  实行一对一政策后  every teacher, student get a Macbook  每个老师和学生都得到一台 MacBook  Not every teacher is embracing it with open arms and excited about it  但并不是每一个老师都很喜欢这个  Some stand off,.  有些处于中立状态  some just jump in and then jump out.  有些时而赞成 时而反对  And also you have those who are you know, bookworm 当然也会有一些书呆子  But here′s what′s important for leaders  但是作为一名领导者  The important thing is we are willing to listen to our teachers  重要的是我们要愿意倾听老师的心声  we are willing to work with our teachers  愿意同老师一道  come alongside them  支持他们  work next to them  与他们共事  allow them to take risks  允许他们冒险  allow them to fail  允许他们失败  failure is good thing  失败是件好事  because we grow by failures  因为我们从失败中成长  and we learn to be successful through failures  我们通过从失败中学习取得成功  Next, we need to be learning together  接下来 我们需要一道学习  We need to be learning aside our teachers, aside our students, in collaborate model  我们要跟老师和学生们一起学习、合作  And finally being a digital leader requires boldness  最后 作为一名数字时代的领导者 还需要胆识  willing to sometimes stand up alone to empowering teachers and students to new levels  愿意去激发师生们更上一层楼  but it also requires leadership in the sense of going out to my community  但我们也要走进社区  fostering support and collaboration in businesses,  寻求社区企业  parents, social agencies and other groups in our community to support this  家长和其他社会团体的合作与支持  Here′s the teacher, Mrs. Tom Stalk in her English class  这是我们的一位老师在上英语课  Tom love engage students with programs called schoology  这位老师很喜欢让学生参与到 schoology 项目中  She has all the students go on and submit all the assignments electronically  她让所有学生在线提交作业  and then students can comment on one another′s assignments  然后每个学生都可以评论对方的作业  Here are two highly interactive young ladies 这是我们的两个女同学  This is right when they got their Macbooks  她们刚拿到 MacBook  and they were just thrilled to share that  非常激动  关注 STEMA  As we look at the principals in new digital age  作为数字时代的校长  STEM is so important  STEM 非常重要  And here in America, we really focus on STEM  在美国 我们十分关注 STEM  science  科学  technology  技术  engineering  工程  math  数学  And with that, there are a new component  我们也加了一个新成分  we would like to add that an A  我们加了一个 A  that′s STEAM  变成 STEAM  STEAM adds the art to it  这个 A 就是艺术  because many times we just do science and math and engineering  很多时候我们只关注科学 数学和工程  we forget the most important part of being creative  而忘记了创造力的最重要的方面  the arts  艺术  And that′s why at Pottsgrove we celebrate the arts  所以在我们高中 我们很重视艺术  This is two students right here  这是我们的两个学生  both seniors who show case yard  他们在做展示  And what our teachers did this year  今年我们老师 was that they actually created a virtual art show through Instagram  也通过 Instagram 组织了一个虚拟艺术展  And you can actually without walking in our building  你无需来到我们学校  you can see the art works of our students right there on Instagram  就可以在 Instagram 上看到我们学生的艺术作品  Another thing our school did  我们学校做的另外一件事情是  is that they used the iphone time-lapse videos  使用 iphone 的延时视频  This is a cool thing  这是非常酷的一件事  Time and lapse videos  也就是延时视频  they took a slide of paper to finished work  他们在成品上放一张纸  they set up a camera there  支起相机  And you can watch the artwork  通过延时相机  being created over days of work through time-lapse camera  你可以看到作品是如何完成的  We have students in our music program  我们也有音乐项目  who were composing the music using Garage bands  学生们自己谱曲  and who were producing the music live from studies produced in background materials  他们做自己的音乐  This is one of my favorite  这是我最喜欢的  We have students who created and designed his own drone  我们有学生自己创造和设计了自己的无人机  And he was flying it with our permission of course  大家可以看到他在飞行自己的无人机  through the hallway, during a show on technology expo  这是在我们的一次技术展上  With STEM, we really focus on courses that engage learners at all new levels  通过 STEM 我们十分注重那些能吸引所有层次学生的课程  There is of course a national standardized What’s the nice thing about this  这样做还有一个好处  is that students have the choice on what course they want to take  那就是学生们可自主选课  Students are not forced into one track  我们不会强迫他们去选某个课程  and they can have a variety of courses that they can look at  他们也有很多课程选择  You might learn, you may ask and I ask myself, how can I learn as a principal?  你可能会问 作为校长 我们可以怎样学习呢?  Who’s the best at technology?  谁最擅长技术?  Students  学生  They are digital natives  他们是技术“原住民” we are digital immigrants  我们是“移民”  They were born with ipads  他们出生的时候就已经有 ipad  they were born with technology  有各种各样的设备  Most of us adults came into that play a little later  我们中大部分要长大后才接触到  When I decided to do,  在我做决定的时候  I set up a weekly meeting with a student named Sic  我每周都和一个叫 Sic 的学生见面  Sic is a senior student at Pottsgrove high said, I can make that Dr. Ziegler  他说 可以的 校长  He designed what he call Maker Spaces  于是他设计了 Maker Spaces  With these Maker Spaces, what students design is a digital playground  有了 Maker Spaces 学生能在学校进行创造和创新  where students create and innovate right at their school  有了 Maker Spaces 学生能在学校进行创造和创新  What we were doing is that we design our library to provide  我们重新设计了图书馆  the Maker Spaces area When there is a number of girls in STEM  在美国 如果 STEM 里有很多女学生  we need to work on more girls to be interested in science, math, engineering course  我们要努力让更多女生对科学、数学和工程类课程感兴趣  They were working diligently to do that  我们老师都付出了辛勤的劳动  We were making courses designed specifically  我们设计了专门的课程  They will be tailored to our young ladies in our school  专门针对学校的女同学  and we’ll provide them with rich opportunities  并且为他们提供丰富的机会  Some of those are Lego Robotics program at middle school  比如中学的乐高机器人项目  a Robotics team at our high school  高中的机器人团队  genetics class and trip to study ecosystems talked with our team on how we can do it  我们也和我们的团队交流  1 st  visionary leadership  首先是愿景领导  innovative learning and teaching  然后是创新教学  on going professional development  专业发展  compelling evidence of got attention from our newspaper  这也得到当地报纸的关注  This is our student, a class president  这是我们的一个班长  who was selected to be tweeting out school day  她被选为学校日常活动的发布者  She shared the things of what’s going on  她跟大家分享学校发生的事情  You might ask why do we do this?  你可能会问我们为什么要做这个?  We do it to tell the story about our school, Innovation and technology  我们通过创新和技术来讲述学校的故事  The student on the left won an iphone case  左边的学生赢得了一个 iphone 手机壳  What did he do?  他做了什么?  He built a 3D printer and designed a iphone case right out of the 3D printer  他设计了 3D 打印机 然后打印出这个 iphone 手机壳  Students are using technology in the cafeteria  学生们也在食堂里面使用技术  in engaging one another in learning  纷纷参与到学习中  As you can see here,  大家可以看到  This is student engaging in the classroom  这是学生在课室学习的情况  so what we focus on is online learning environment  我们也很关注网上学习环境的营造 We have hybrid courses  我们有混合课程  online courses which half you can take online  就是一半在网上上课的课程  And we have 100% online courses  我们也有 100%的网上课程  where students can totally engage online with the classes  这些课程完全是在网上学习的  We also have dual enrollment  我们也有双重录取  Students can go and take the course at the community college and get credits  学生们可以去当地社区大学上课拿学分  Professional development like I say is a key  专业发展也是一个关键  We are available to learning for teachers  我们为老师提供多种专业发展机会  We hire Apple coach to come and train our teachers  我们请来苹果公司的专家给我们的老师做培训  We have student leaders  我们有学生领袖  We do visit the classrooms  我们经常走进课堂  We would love to come to visit China and your classroom  我们希望能走进中国的课堂  We would love you to come to our classroom  也欢迎在座各位走进我们的课堂  we do a group camp  我们有团队活动  We do training  我们有培训活动  This is one of our students who do training to our teachers  这是我们一个学生在给老师做培训  This is our Apple coach training our students  这是苹果公司的教练在培训我们的老师  It’s all about designing flexible learning environment  设计灵活的学习环境是最主要的  You design your school and facilities around student collaboration and support  围绕学生相互合作、相互支持这一理念设计你的学校及设施  Students no longer learn in rows  学生们不再是做成一排排  now they are in groups  他们是小组学习  And you need a strong IT program  你也需要强大的技术项目 You see what we have done  大家看到我们所做的  we allow our students to hang out in hallways  我们允许学生在走廊学习  we design our math classroom in collaborative circles like this  我们将数学教室设计成可以合作的圆圈  And there are innovative spaces  我们也有创新空间  We make more room away from the desks and moving toward the board to focus  我们为学生创造了更多的空间  Digital leaders just you and I are,  作为数字时代的领导者  we need to be willing to learn, grow, take risks, lead and collaborate  我们要愿意去学习 去成长 去冒险 去领导和合作  So Iwould like to thank you for the
